Organ Donation
The Human Transplantation (Wales) Bill was passed by the Assembly on Tuesday 2nd July 2013.
However, it is important you understand that the deemed consent system will not apply until 1st December 2015.
You will see lots of information about the new system, the choices you will be able to make and when you need to make them. You will be given plenty of timeto make your choices before the start of the new system.
From 1st December 2015 under the new system you will be able to choose:
TO DO NOTHING - this means your consent could be deemed to have been given
OR
TO OPT IN - this means you can register a wish to be a donor
OR
TO OPT OUT - this means you can register a wish NOT to be a donor.
Until then, the arrangements stay as they are now, and you do not need to do anything.
In the meantime, you can still register as a donor on the existing
Organ Donation Register by:
Calling the NHS Donor Line on 0300 123 23 23
(lines are open 24 hours a day all year round. Calls are charged at your contracted rate for local calls)
Texting SAVE to 62323
And most importantly
Tell your family about your wishes.
